When did you realized that you want to be an artist?

I decided to be an artist when I was very young, a child. When I was eleven, I liked to copy characters from TV. My references were Disney movies, some animes, characters from Cartoon Network, Fox Kids, Super heroes from comics, and movies in general. Then I had my first lessons of animated drawing in the Paula’s Albarracin School, in the neighborhood of Olivos. There, I learned how to design and construct characters and how to make traditional 2d animation. At the same time I started to be interesting in caricatures too. I remember seeing a lot of caricaturist on the Mar del Plata beach, or Villagesell, and I was fascinated. So, I started to try making caricatures by myself. First I tried portraits, and then caricatures from famous people.

2. How did you start work as an caricature artist?
Along the way, I started taking courses on how to be a professional caricature artist. In 2008, I met the Illustrator David Pugliese, in the Claudio Kappel’s School, and he taught me the basics of making caricatures with different techniques. At the same time I started working at events making live caricatures with other caricaturists. It became a very fun job. Soon, in 2009, David suggested I work on cruises line ships, making live portraits and live caricatures. The company that hired me was Royal Caribbean International.

3. What did you learn about the cruises ships jobs? Did the travel inspire you?
Working on cruises, made me see life in a different way. My dream of working for an international company, became true. I was 23 years old, and I was not just only working as an artist, but traveling around the world, too. Travel inspired me a lot. I met a lot of wonderful people, I visited museums like the Prado, and the Picasso’s Museum in Spain, the Uffizi in Italy, and the Vaticano. I was fascinated with European arquitecture, too. So, when I finished my contract I decided to create my first exhibition of 11 celebrities in graphite, black and white. And it was exhibited in Málaga, Spain in the Bar “Café de Autor”. It was a wonderful moment for me.

4. How did you continue working as a caricaturist after the cruises ships life?
As an artist in Argentina, I noticed that is not easy to reach goals. When I finished my contract in 2011, I came back to Argentina, and I didn´t have a portfolio to show to different companies. So I began studying hard, taking classes in painting, illustration and other workshops in graphic design in UBA (Buenos Aires University). Over time I started to make new artist friends, to make more exhibitions, teach caricature workshops, to publish in different media and working freelance for different particular clients as well. Nowadays I am happy that I can make a living as an artist, but I never forget that everything takes passion and effort.
